    Notes
    • The spelling of Marie's, the wife of Helie Nicolle, last name has been interpeted with two different ways: Marie Le Vasseur and Marie Bouffard. There is a marriage record that the spelling is clearly "Le Vasseur", In each of their children's baptism registres, the spelling is clearly "Le Vasseur" However, when the marriage registres of their children, the "Le" is dropped, and has become "Vasseur". The "V" and "B" are similar, but old "V"s have the left stem that leans back and curls at the end, where 'b' as in baptism, leans forward. Sometimes "b" "u" and "v" all look the same, 'u' as in 'un' . Old French writing also records double 'ss' that resemble "F", but there are differences. If you study the handwriting of the person who is recording the information on the other records, you can see other examples of "V's and "SS" as I describe. Therefore, with all the consistant spellings from birth and mariage registres, I have concluded that the spelling is VASSEUR.
